U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022: CAF award winner and Black Princesses’ deputy captain declares readiness for USA

The deputy captain for the Ghana Women’s U-20 national team, Evelyn Badu has declared readiness for their World Cup opener against the United States of America.

The Ghanaian ladies are in a sixth record appearance having previously played in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Ghana will open their campaign against the United States of America on Thursday (tomorrow), 11 August, 2022 before playing Japan and Netherlands in Group D.

Badu, 18, who recently won the CAF Inter-club Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year insists the team is ready to make impact in the tournament which kicks off today in Costa Rica.

Speaking in an interview with Edward King Akuffo on Atinka FM’s Total Sports show, the Norwegian-based Ghanaian international divulged, “We are all ready for Thursday’s battle against USA.

“We are ready for that game.

“After the qualifiers we didn’t play any international friendly before the France game. We lost by four goals to nil (4-0) but we were not worried. It was a wake up call. It helped us to see the level of the game and the tournament we are going to play. The style of the African teams we played against during the qualifications differs and this time it is a world level. Both the players and the technical team have seen the level of the tournament.

“We have worked and corrected our mistakes. We are ready for US,” Evelyn stated.

Ben Fokuo’s side booked their place at the tournament in March following an impressive 5-1 aggregate victory against Ethiopia in their last game in the qualifiers.

Having been paired in Group D, though, the Black Princesses will face tough tests against former world champions USA and Japan.

The Americans are the most successful team in the competition after winning the U-20 World Cup three times.

Meanwhile, Japan are also the defending champions, having conquered all to win the trophy in the last edition in 2018.
