Asante Kotoko reach agreement with Karela United for Umar Bashiru

The Porcupine Warriors have reached an agreement with Karela United over the re-signing of the box-to-box midfielder in the ongoing transfer window, Kickgh.com can exclusively report

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko are in pole position of announcing the acquisition of Umar Bashiru for their 2022/23 season’s campaign.

Kickgh.com can exclusively report that management of Asante Kotoko have concluded negotiations with Karela United over the signing of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Bashiru is making a return to the Kumasi-based club after unsuccessful spell at the club during the 2018/19 season.

The 25-year-old was deemed as surplus to requirements by the technical handlers of Asante Kotoko after a one-year stay at the club.

His three-year contract was terminated by Asante Kotoko after one year of joining the club from West African Football Academy SC (WAFA) in 2018.

He signed a multi-year contract with Karela United prior to the commencement of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League on a free transfer.

Bashiru has established himself as a top performer for Karela United since his arrival at the club and had been impressive in the Red and Green shirt in the last two seasons.

The mercurial central enforcer was involved in massive 17 goals in the recently ended season, having netted 13 goals and providing 4 assists in the process.

His explosive performance earned him a call-up to the Black Galaxies of Ghana squad and played an instrumental role in Ghana’s win over Benin in CHAN qualifiers.

Kickgh.com understands that Asante Kotoko will be announcing his capture in the coming hours to join the club’s pre-season exercise in Accra before they enroute to Turkey to continue preparations.

Asante Kotoko are currently in search for highly-rated players to strengthen their squad list for the next season’s Ghana Premier League and CAF Champions League.

Asante Kotoko will begin their 2022/23 CAF Champions League campaign against Burkina Faso champions RC Kadiogo in the first preliminary round.
